Sensitive & Reactive Skin

Understand what’s actually driving the reactivity, why sensitive skin is usually a barrier problem, and what to do about it without making things worse.

Why This Matters

Sensitive skin is rarely just sensitivity.

Most skin that stings, flares, or reacts unpredictably isn’t inherently sensitive — it’s operating with a compromised barrier. A damaged barrier lets in molecules it would normally screen out, causing reactions to products that were previously tolerated and creating a cycle of reactivity that gets harder to break the longer it continues.

The frustrating part is that most advice for sensitive skin makes it worse. Switching products constantly disrupts the barrier further. Adding soothing actives on top of compromised skin can trigger the reactions they’re meant to calm.

The resources in this hub are built around one principle: the skin barrier is the foundation of healthy skin. When the barrier is supported first, many concerns — including dryness, sensitivity, and reactivity — often become easier to improve.

Assess your barrier before anything else

Reactive skin almost always has a barrier component. The Barrier Health Index gives you a scored assessment across five domains — so you understand what’s actually compromised before deciding how to respond.
